Manage Credentials

ConfigEx uses systemOID to identify devices' type, and then issues different CLI commands to login to network devices, and collects configuration files from network devices. So, for ConfigEx to fully discover and manage your network, we need network admins to manually enter network credentials, including username/password, privilege password and snmp community string. You can set up several network credentials and define the order in which they are to be attempted, ConfigEx will try to use these credentials in turn to login to network devices via SNMP, Telnet and SSH. For speed of discovery, order network credentials by frequency, with the most common credentials first.

Each access method is attempted until a working credential is found or the list is exhausted. ConfigEx is only a network management suite, not hacking tools, we do not provide dictionary-based login attempts.

Note: Some types of network device (for example: DELL Force10 Switch) do not allow multiple failed login attempts(will lockout for a few minutes), so it is necessary to put these credentials in front to avoid login failure.

Network Discovery

Starting with a seed device, or an IP address range, ConfigEx automatically discover network devices, like switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers and wireless controllers, using Telnet or SSH to collect configuration files from devices. The automated advanced discovery algorithm is thread-based, very quickly, it supports up to 16 threads now. Within just a few minutes, ConfigEx can discover all of your network in a simple and easy-to-use interface, and the detailed logs are very helpful when finding root cause of live access failure.

ConfigEx allows you to discover your network and find all of your network devices, we use a number of discovery technologies - including SNMP, Telnet/SSH, CDP/LLDP, to discover everything connected to your network and build a complete and accurate picture of network devices and their port-to-port connectivity. We are currently supporting all major vendors, including Cisco, Juniper, HP, Fortinet, Extreme, F5, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Huawei, and many more. If you find that some vendors or models are not working properly, please contact us and we will provide support FOR FREE.

Network Mapping

Over the years, networks have become complex and larger, IT teams require clear visibility into their network with actionable intelligence to help them fix issues. Visualization of network or network mapping is one way to simplify the maintenance of complex networks. Network map is visual map of network's physical and virtual connectivity, detailing devices on the network and their inter-relationships. And, without the assistance of network mapping tools, troubleshooting network issues can be a long and tedious process.

Network discover process learns about the network topology step by step or should rather say "hop by hop", and build a complete and accurate picture of network devices and their port-to-port connectivity. ConfigEx renders the logical network topology diagram once you have successfully completed network discovery. Having an accurate topology of your network is a vital prerequisite to be able to handle system management, growth, and troubleshooting. Moreover, network maps also make it easier for IT teams to communicate effectively with team members or other non-technical staff in the organization. ConfigEx mapping tool keeps on getting better, and delivering more valuable features.

Network Monitoring

Establishing network with complicated configurations for routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless controllers as per different business policies, service levels, and compliance requirements is a challenge. However, the bigger challenge is to quickly identify which device in their network is online or offline, admins need to identify and fix issues before they get worse.

Using ConfigEx to monitor your devices can tell you whether a device is up or down and the connection quality of network devices, critical servers, and leased lines. ConfigEx continuously sends ICMP echo requests to every device and analyzes its echo replies. If a ping passes, ConfigEx will show its round-trip time. Network monitoring gives you a clear perspective of the health of your network devices which in turn assures the stability of your network connections.

✓  Monitor status of network devices, critical servers, and leased lines

✓  Continuously monitor up to 1024 network devices at the same time

✓  Quickly find device description, leased line number, contact phone...

Configuration Comparison

Device configurations are modified frequently to accomodate the businesses' growing network infrastructural needs, these changes are performed manually, which makes them prone to errors that often lead to network issues, we believe that more than 95% of network failures are caused by configuration errors or configuration changes. However, looking into individual configuration files and troubleshooting them can be a time-consuming activity.

To prevent network disasters caused by configuration errors, network admins need an easy way to find changes made to device configurations. ConfigEx simplifies this process by providing a side-by-side comparison of configuration files, allowing admins quickly spot changes. ConfigEx can help you identify the detailed network changes and make the comparison results visualized to accelerate the troubleshooting, you can always know when device configuration has changed and what was changed.

Note: You need to create golden baseline of configuration files for comparison.

Configuration Comparison

Configuration Difference

Generally, network admins have to run through each line of configuration file to identify changes. ConfigEx simplifies this process with our configuration comparison functionality, which allows admins to easily identify changes between configuration files, regardless of their size. Use ConfigEx to compare the current configurations of your devices with previous configurations to see changes, ConfigEx is an easy way to see side-by-side comparisons of configuration files.

ConfigEx's configuration comparison displays color-coded changes for easier identification of each change and its respective type. Lines that have been added are shown in blue, deleted lines are in red, and modified lines are green. Network admins can choose to view all lines of the configuration with the changes color coded or just the differences between the configurations.

Note: You need to create golden baseline of configuration files for comparison.
